Halloween at imm3rse.in
Trick-or-treaters were able to experience free virtual scares and REAL candy when they came to our VR center this year. The place was bathe in an eariee red glow as ghost and pumpkins floated down walls. Team members Cesar and Lyndsay were in their favorite costumes as they chaperone guests through haunted houses and mazes filled with monsters.
VR at the Big Fresno Fair
imm3rse.in was recently at the Big Fresno Fair this year. We were in the Let's Play! area of the fair, where families can participate in a Family Feud-style game show and play large scale classic games like chess, a game that was created over two thousand years ago. imm3rse.in was there to showcase the future of play through virtual reality (VR). We were able to offer VR experiences that had kids and adults milk cows, simulate jobs, shoot lasers at flying robots, swing light sabers, and slice fruits with swords.
The VR experience that generated the most visceral response was when we had people walk on a plank 80 stories high. Kids and adults alike screamed with fear as they walked out onto the plank, looking down at city streets far beneath them. This was enhanced by the fact they were actually walking on a wood plank that was padded so it would bend under their weight. All were left breathless as they fell 80 stories at the end of the experience. But they were all smiles as they took off the headset (some did cry), having experienced the thrill of standing so high and falling so far.
